Nan Poulsen of Nan’s Gourds From the Garden to Art Art has always been an important part of my life. Gourds let me combine two of my passions—art and gardening. We grow our gourds in West Haven. After harvesting, they cure and dry through the winter. In the heat of summer, the gourds are scrubbed clean. Finally, the gourds are ready to be transformed into unique treasures. The gourds tell me what they want to become through the use of paint, ink, pyrography, coiling, and carving.
